Pre Season Football Competition Starts
The Maryborough Wholesalers Pre season Football Competition got underway on Friday and Saturday at Federation Park. The Ladies games on Friday were cut short when a fuse blew on the main Ergon power supply plunging the grounds into darkness. At the time Sunbury were leading last years Premiers 1 goal to nil and new team Tinana were leading 2–1. A revised draw will be arranged for next Friday with the 4 teams playing each other once in 30 minute games. The games will start at 6.30pm.
On Saturday after Ergon had fixed the lights the Maryborough Wholesalers Mens pre season competition got underway with some entertaining games. In the 1st Division Premiers Sunbury got off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory over Granville with both goals scored by Anthony Mollee in the second half. Bayside Strikers overcame Doonvilla to run out winners 3-1, after the scores were locked at 1 all at half-time. Joel Neilson scored for Villa and Jake Sandow, Grant Catianch and Jason Hurling scoring for Bayside. In the final 1st Division game Bayside gained revenge for their loss in last years Grand Final when the defeated Sunbury 2-1. Jake Sandow and Jason Hurling scored for Bayside with Jared Phersson getting one for Sunbury. Next Saturday the 1st Division action will see Bayside v Granville and Doonvilla v Sunbury at 4.00pm and the final game will be at 6.00pm between Doonvilla and Granville.
In the second division an exciting looking Tinana team accounted for Granville 3-1, scorers for Tinana were Simon Morgan, Alex Rowe and Hayden Josefski while Keith Thorburn got one for Granville. In their second game Tinana defeated United Warriors 2-1 with Phil Latemore and Alex Rowe scoring for Tinana and Shane McClure getting on e for United. In their earlier game United Warriors defeated West 3-0 with goals coming from Adam Silcs, Cameron Hanrhan and an own goal. West in their seconded game inflicted a heavy defeat on an under manned Granville team running out victors by 8 goals to 1. Scorers for West were Daryle Ford 2, Sam Hall, Nathan Brake, Lionel Clark, Blake Spoor, Alex Clark and Hans Karner while Andrew Souvlis scored for Granville. In the first game of the day Hervey Bay Rangers defeated Granville 3-0 with Gary Foster and Damien Sudlow 2 scoring for Rangers. The action will continue next Saturday with Granville playing United and Rangers playing Tinana at 2.00pm, at 4.00pm Rangers will play United, at 5.00pm Tinana play West and the final game will be Rangers and West at 7.00pm
